Goody Demolition pride ourselves on being a sustainable and environmentally responsible business.
Delivery of our services includes detailed consideration and planning to recognise, respect, manage and mitigate our impacts on; potentially sensitive receptors adjacent to our projects and activities, risk of flooding, natural habitats and ecosystems, communities in which we work and any local heritage elements.
Our environmental management system is certified to ISO 14001: 2015 and in line with this, we commit to continual improvement of our environmental standards.
With climate change an ever present factor, and the increasing amounts of construction/redevelopment being carried out in high population-density urban centres, embedding sustainability into all aspects of our business is hugely important. We strive to provide services delivering high performance against Civil Engineering Environmental Quality Assessment and Award Scheme (CEEQUAL) AND Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM). By utilising sustainable practices across our operations we meet our obligations regarding the above by:
We undertake Pre-Demolition Audits on our projects to assess the materials within a building or structure to determine what can be reused, recycled, or reclaimed, rather than simply going to landfill. These audits will typically cover all existing buildings, structures, hard surfaces, and FF&E (furniture, fixtures, and equipment) within the scope of the demolition works, identifying and quantifying the types and quantities of materials present in the building/structure.
Goody Demolition abide by the waste disposal hierarchy when considering options for generated materials, with landfill always being the least desirable, final option should there are no other alternatives.
We continually monitor and seek to improve our recycling rate which is currently over 90%.
Sustainability is a key consideration in our procurement decisions. We aim to procure products that minimise the use of primary natural resources, use recycled materials and are easily recyclable. We also aim to ensure that our supply chain for services maintain sustainable practices that match or exceed our own.
To both reduce the environmental impact on our sites, and reduce the carbon footprint of our business as a whole, we have invested in hybrid and electric vehicles throughout our fleet. All management and estimating staff drive hybrid vehicles, and we are in the process of trialling electric vans & larger plant.
Energy efficiency and reducing our carbon footprint is a key consideration on all projects, and we work with our clients and subcontractors to achieve this. We are continuously striving to find new and innovative ways of reducing energy use and carbon emissions business wide, through use of electric / hybrid vehicles, sustainable energy sources on offices and site infrastructure and utilising the most efficient plant and equipment. We review our processes on an ongoing basis, identifying and investing in new technologies and innovations where these will benefit our business and our customers.
